Painful for some: Miranda Kerr has revealed that her husband Orlando Bloom asked if he could get an epidural during the birth of their son Flynn
For many soon-to-be fathers, watching their partners go through labour and feeling helpless is tormenting.
Miranda Kerr has revealed that her husband Orlando Bloom came up with a novel way for him to be able to deal with seeing her in so much pain during the birth of their baby Flynn.
As his wife had refused drugs, the actor suggested that he could perhaps have an epidural instead.

In a revealing interview with Australian television program Sunday Night, the supermodel discussed her previously revealed stance on having a natural birth.
'I had made the decision to not have any drugs, no epidural, nothing,' the 28-year-old said.
'Each to their own. I'm crazy for doing that! A lot of my friends who have had epidurals have said, "Oh (labour) was so great".'

Asked if her resolve wavered at any point during the labour, she admitted: 'I remember looking at Orlando and saying "Oh honey."'
'And he said, "Give me the epidural! Seriously, if you don't want it I'll take it because right now I'm dying watching you go through this pain".'
'I didn't realise (Flynn) was going to be such a big baby.'
Not love at first sight: Miranda says it was Orlando's 'persistence' that finally won her over, and that she was reluctant to date a movie star
Miranda also revealed that it was not love at first sight when she met Orlando, 34.
'I think it was his persistence,' she said. 'Maybe he wanted me because he thought he couldn't have me.'
Asked if his movie star status put him off, she admitted: 'I was reluctant - not about him, but the idea of that (him being a movie star).'
It was during the Sunday Night interview that Miranda revealed the tragic inspiration behind Flynn's middle name.

Close to tears, the Australian model as she discussed her teenage boyfriend Christopher, who died in a car accident shortly after Miranda moved to Brisbane from their country town of Gunnedah.
Miranda said: 'He was my first love. We were young and we talked about everything; having kids and getting married.
'He died so instantly. It was quite a shock.
'I wrote him a letter after he died, saying I would name my first child after him and that is what I have done. 'Orlando was very kind and understanding. He said if you want, you can do that.'

She said she thought Christopher would be proud of her if he were still alive.

'They say the first three years are the most important, so I want to make sure that he gets the attention and the nurturing and love that he really needs. so we'll see what happens.
