Kristen Stewart flashes some Snow White flesh as she films soaking wet beach scenes for new adventure movie

    By ELEANOR GOWER

Still smiling: Despite being wet Kristen Stewart was seen with a big smile as she filmed scenes from Snow White and the Huntsman

It has been billed as a re-imagined and slightly twisted version of the fairytale classic.

And judging by today's on-set photographs of movie Snow White and the Huntsman, it certainly seems pretty far removed from Disney's fluffy cartoon take on the story.

Leading lady Kristen Stewart spent the day soaking wet and showing a good few inches of flesh as she shot scenes for the film on a Welsh beach.

Flesh flash: Kristen Stewart shows off her shoulders as she filmed new movie Snow White and the Huntsman in Wales earlier today

The actress looked to be taking part in some particularly dramatic scenes on the sands, and hoisted her soaking wet gown on as she walked along.

After one scene, she was sitting alongside a stunning white horse, which was attended to by crew members.

In a contrast from yesterday in which she was seen sporting heavy armour, Stewart wore a long medieval style gown over long brown boots, with her hair loose around her shoulders.

Her hair also looked to be a darker shade than familiar to fans of the Twilight franchise.

Drama: The actress looks to be sitting alongside her white horse on the beach as part of a particularly dramatic scene on the beach

Life's a beach: The 21-year-old actress strolled along the beach in a soaking wet gown, at one point, holding up the dress as she strolled along some rocks

The white stuff: Stewart is shot filming a scene with the magnificent white horse

She seemed more than comfortable on horseback, although may have used a stunt double to canter across the beach for one bareback shot.

The actress was clearly having to maintain a wet and dishevelled look, with an assistant spraying her down with a water gun at one point.

Never with with children or animals: Kristen turned away as the horse relieved himself

Horse power: The actress sat astride her white horse as she waited for the scene to begin

Epic: The film promises to be an all-action telling of the classic fairytale

She also needed the crew's help to clamber over a rocky incline.

It wasn't all intense focus for the star though. She was later spotted breaking into a smile in a rest between scenes on a rocky section of the shore.

In another scene, she was spotted emerging from the sea in her gown - perhaps after a very refreshing dip, considering the cold Welsh waters.

New movie: Stewart stars alongside Chris Hemsworth and Ian McShane in the fantasy style film

Striking scene: Stewart, or possibly her stunt lookalike rides bareback across the sands for a stunning scene in the film

Time for more water: Kristen achieves the wet look with the help pf a crew member

Staying soaked: At one point a member of the crew sprays a rather shocked Stewart to make her stay wet for the seaside scene

Rock climbing: Stewart gets some help walking over the rocks from several members of the crew

Clamber: The Twilight star looked intensely focused as she walked over the rocks in one scene, although she broke into a smile when the footage was finished

The movie stars Charlize Theron as the Evil Queen and Ian McShane, Eddie Izzard, Bob Hoskins, Toby Jones and Ray Winstone among the dwarves.

Stewart recently revealed that she was not initially attracted to the role of Snow White, but became interested after realising the new version was a very different take on the classic character.

And action! The star is filmed with her dress sleeveless around the shoulders on the rocky incline

The sea the sea! Stewart wore a long black coat over her gown as she strode through the cold Welsh waters

Drenched: Stewart emerges from the ocean soaked to the skin, with her wet hair bedraggled down her back

Morning light: Stewart shares a joke with a female crew member as the sun starts to come up over the beach

The film - the first in a planned trilogy - is slated to be released in cinemas next year.

Stewart also appears as MaryLou in the adaptation of Jack Kerouac film On the Road, and stars in penultimate Twilight instalment Breaking Dawn, which will be released in November.

All dried off: The actress was also spotted with her hair and gown dry, in what was surely a more comfortable look, along with walking down the beach in a large black wrapped

When two worlds collide: Kirsten Dunst brings Hollywood to London for the premiere of her new apocalyptic film Melancholia

    By HOLLY THOMAS

Glowing: Kirsten Dunst looked stunning in a coffee-coloured dress with gold details at the Mayfair premiere of Melancholia this evening

While the subject matter of her new film is dark to say the least, Kirsten Dunst looked radiant as she stepped out onto the red carpet for the premiere of her new apocalyptic drama, Melancholia.

Kirsten's beaming face made a stark contrast to the film's weighty themes, and she beamed as she greeted the crowds outside Mayfair's Curzon cinema.

The 29-year-old glowed in a coffee-coloured semi transparent dress with gold details.

Acclaim: Kirsten won a best actress award for her role at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year

Co-star: Actor John Hurt, who plays Kirsten's father in the film, was also present at the Curzon premiere

Service with a smile: A beaming Kirsten signed autographs for her excited fans

She beamed as she signed autographs for the fans waiting outside, wearing her blonde hair in a loose bun and a splash of scarlet lipstick.

Written and Directed by Dancer in the Dark's Lars von Trier, Melancholia has already received a great deal of critical acclaim.

Kirsten won the best actress award at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year for her role as a bride whose difficult relationship with her sister is stretched to the limit as a planet called Melancholia is heading toward Earth.

Candid: Kirsten opened up on the red carpet about the depression she has suffered in the past

'I think that most human beings go through some sort of depression in their life. And if they don't, I think that's weird.'

She was also supportive of her director tonight, who came under fire when he told reporters at a Cannes press conference that he was 'a Nazi' and could understand Hitler.

'I would have done anything with Lars. I adore working with him. There's no one who's communicated emotion so simply and effectively to me than Lars. And he's funny and a joy to be around,' Dunst enthused.'

Proud: The star insisted that she had felt very comfortable while working on the difficult project due to the supportive atmosphere on set

Meeting again: Kirsten Dunst greeted her co-star with a friendly kiss when he arrived

A spot of déjà vu: Colin Firth's wife Livia Giuggioli upstages him at premiere - in a dress Kate Winslet wore six months ago

    By NADIA MENDOZA

Red carpet naturals: Colin Firth and wife Livia Giuggioli pose outside the BFI Southbank arriving for the UK premiere of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

It's not uncommon for a male star to let his wife steal his thunder on the red carpet.

But there was an air of déjà vu as all eyes fixed on Colin Firth wife's Livia Giuggioli tonight.

The couple looked typically photo-preened at the premiere of his latest film Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy - but it seems Livia has pinched some style tips from fashion icon Kate Winslet and other famous faces.

Look familiar: Kate Winslet wore the Stella McCartney design back in March following the premiere of her HBO mini-series Mildred Pierce

The Italian film producer, who married Firth in 1997, sported an identical Stella McCartney dress that the Titanic actress wore in March.

Stealing the show: Livia looked effortlessly beautiful in the sunlight as the weather held out for the premiere

And it's easy to see why it caught her eye, as the flattering black frock cloaked her delicate frame in all the right places, adding a quirky touch with polka dots spotted down the left side of the arm and body.

Winslet, who at 35 is six years younger than Giuggioli, first stepped out in the creation at the aftershow for her Mildred Pierce premiere.

Angel: Victoria's Secret model Doutzen Kroes looks striking in New York last week

Looking every inch the A-lister, the Oscar-winner oozed sex appeal and old school glamour at the Grand Ballroom of The Plaza Hotel in New York.

Another fan of the item is Dutch model Doutzen Kroes, who looked enviably striking in the sleek number and added a sprinkle of sex appeal.

The Victoria's Secret Angel opted for the eye-catching design at the Missoni for Target pop-up store launch, held in New York just last week.

Looking like a boss: Tom Hardy, Colin Firth, Gary Oldman, Benedict Cumberbatch and John Hurt pose at the BFI Southbank in London

Liv Tyler has also been seen in the dress, while Natalia Vodianova wore it in Stella's advertising campaign and Jane Fonda rocked it for the September issue of Harper's Bazaar.

But back to the main attraction Colin - he stars in the thriller directed by Tomas Alfredson, best known for vampire thriller Let The Right One In.

Greeting his fans: Colin was patient with the waiting crowd and signed autographs over the barriers

He patiently signed autographs for the waiting crowd as the rain held off and kept everyone dry at the BFI Southbank.

The film is based on the 1974 novel of the same name by John le Carré.

Set in London in the 1970s, it tells the tale of the hunt for a Soviet double agent at the top of the British secret service.

The star-studded cast also boasts Gary Oldman, Tom Hardy, John Hurt, Mark Strong and Benedict Cumberbatch.

Clashing colours: Violinist Linzi Stoppard and Swedish actress Noomi Rapace wear vibrant dresses against the backdrop of the red carpet

Oscar worthy? Colin stars in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, set in 1970s London

Catwoman Anne Hathaway goes from leather to ladylike on the set of The Dark Knight Rises

    By ANDREA MAGRATH

Ladylike: Anne Hathaway is pictured on the Dark Knight Rises set in LA today in character as Selina Kyle

Catwoman's alter ego Selina Kyle is typically portrayed as a petty thief.

But it appears as though the character may be moving on up for Anne Hathaway's portrayal of her in The Dark Knight Rises.

The actress was pictured on the Los Angeles set of the film today looking very prim and proper.

The 28-year-old's ladylike appearance is a far cry from the publicity still released by Warner Bros last month showing Anne in a leather catsuit riding her motorbike.

Hathaway filmed scenes today dressed in a black dress and cropped jacket, gloves, a wide-brimmed hat and heels.

Anne wore a perfect pout of red lipstick and wore prim pearl earrings.

Prim: Hathaway's Selina looks far removed from the petty thief of the DC Comics

While she waited in between takes, the actress removed her jacket to stay cool in the sweltering LA heat, which hit 89F today.

When director Christopher Nolan yelled 'action,' Anne wheeled her suitcase and handbag to the curb and hailed a yellow taxi.

Christian Bale was also spotted on set negotiating traffic. Bale, dressed in a black suit, weaved his way in and out of cars on a busy street.

Hard day's work: The 28-year-old filmed a scene where she hails a cab on the LA set

Alter ego: Anne's prim appearance is a far cry from her leather catsuit as Catwoman

The actor, who stars as Batman in the film franchise, was seen getting his make-up touched up in between scenes.

Filming moved to California this week from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Little is known about the storyline for this film, which co-stars Marion Cotillard and Joseph Gordon-Levitt and sees Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine also reprise their roles.

Down town: Christian Bale was also spotted weaving through the traffic on set

Pictured: New York street turns into a disaster zone for new Avengers movie... as Robert Downey Jr joins cast for more action packed scenes

    By ELLIE GENOWER

Disaster zone: A street in midtown New York City was turned into a disaster area earlier yesterday for the forthcoming blockbuster movie The Avengers

With plumes of smoke, a pile up of bright yellow taxis and burned out cars, it looked very much like a disaster had happened in a midtown Manhattan street yesterday.

The road provided the dramatic setting for big budget action movie The Avengers, which is currently shooting in New York as the city prepares to mark the tenth anniversary of 9/11.

Mayhem: New York taxis pile up and a car is burned out on the Manhattan set yesterday

Extras and crew members swarmed around in between breaks from filming the movie, which features a star-studded cast including Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr and Chris Evans.

The stars filmed several action shots for the movie over the weekend, all reprising their superhero roles seen in previous films based on Marvel comic characters.

To the rescue: Iron man star Robert Downey Jr was filming in the guise of alter ego Tony Stark in the Central Park area of the city this weekend

Today's dramatic street scenes are clearly a reflection of the film's big budget status - it is rumoured to be costing in the region of $150 million.

Several different scene set ups in the city appeared to have included car pile ups and burned out vehicles, with one area showing with the remains of a jet engine, though to be the superhero's method of transport.

Need for speed: Downey Jr, as alter ego Tony Stark gets into a convertible sports car for one new scene

The film tells the story of Nick Fury (Samuel L Jackson) director of the peacekeeping organisation S.H.I.E.L.D., who recruits Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) Thor (Hemsworth) and Captain America (Chris Evans) to save the world from destruction.

The weekend saw Robert Downey Jr on set filming in a black sports car, appearing as his suited alter ego millionaire Tony Stark, who becomes Iron Man.

According to Chris Evans, Stark and his character Captain America will see a bit of conflict in the movie.

'I think there's certainly a dichotomy - this kind of friction between myself and Tony Stark,' Evans told MTV.

Ready to save the world; Several cars were destroyed and covered with rocks for use in one scene

'They're polar opposites. One guy is flash and spotlight and smooth, and the other guy is selfless and in the shadows and kind of quiet... and they have to get along. They explore that, and it's pretty fun.'

Elsewhere, Scarlett Johansson has been busy in the guise of her Iron Man 2 role The Black Widow, wearing the character's trademark black catsuit.

Jeremy Renner also stars as Hawkeye, the world's greatest archer, and British actor Tom Hiddleston reprises his role as Loki from recent hit movie Thor.

Renner was seen alongside Johansson and Evans filming some high octane chase scenes over the weekend.

To the rescue: Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson and Chris Evans have been busy filming several action scenes amidst the rubble

In addition to filming in New York, the cast and crew are also expected to shoot scenes in New Mexico and Los Angeles.

The Avengers team originally made its début in print in 1963 and was created by Marvel comics writer-editor Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby.

The film is set for release in North American in May 2012.

Mr Right and Miss Wrong...

    By CHRIS TOOKEY

Dex appeal: Jim Sturgess and Anne Hathaway

David Nicholls’ word-of-mouth bestseller was not only a charming, cleverly structured romantic comedy, but also one of the most observant books about British society in the past 20 years.

The film works well enough to make it one of 2011’s more entertaining romcoms. Near the end, it even made me cry — but I fear that some of my tears were of frustration that it wasn’t much, much better.

Compared with how good it should have been, it’s a disaster.

Disappointment: Jim Sturgeons delights as Dexter but Anne Hathaway doesn't live up to expectations as Emma

The story is of two Edinburgh university graduates who become best friends, but fail to come together romantically until almost too late. By showing us the same day — St Swithin’s — over 20 years, it tells the story of their relationship and, through them, the story of a generation.

It’s not a wholly original concept — aspects of it are borrowed from Sondheim’s masterly musical Merrily We Roll Along and Bernard Slade’s 1975 stage comedy Same Time, Next Year — but it is a splendid conceit, which shows us the passing of time and the missed opportunities many of us come to regret in middle age.

    Let’s start with the positives.

By gum she's bad: Anne Hathaway as Emma

The film has a five-star, sensational leading performance by Jim Sturgess as Dexter, a public-school smoothie who can’t resist a pretty female face or the attractions of quick and easy fame on the telly. In many ways, he personifies the arrogance of youth.

Without a charming, multi-faceted actor, Dexter could easily have been unsympathetic in his resolute superficiality.

Sturgess captures brilliantly Dexter’s self-destructiveness and ability to deceive himself, if no one else, while his eyes reflect his guilt at never quite doing the right thing by his long-term best friend Emma (Anne Hathaway) or his parents (Ken Stott and Patricia Clarkson).

Bestseller: The novel One Day was a huge hit but the film disappoints

Because Sturgess is so great, the film is all about him, in a way that the novel never is. It is he who has the tragic character arc, he who grows as a character, him who you weep for by the end. The film is also excellent in its supporting players. Rafe Spall is marvellous in the potentially caricature role of Ian, the scruffy stand-up comedian whom Emma beds as a second-rate substitute for Dexter.

Cut down: The character of Emma in One Day is refined from the novel, her affair with a married man is removed in the film
